Kilkenny is the most successful county in the history of the All-Ireland hurling championship with 36 all-Ireland and 71 senior Leinster hurling titles. Although it was football that initially thrived in the county – the first football game played under GAA rules took place in Callan in February 1885. Hurling later became the main Gaelic sport in the county following the securing of the county’s first hurling title in 1904. Kilkenny wore black and amber jerseys in their first All-Ireland final appearance in 1893. They had been bought from the Thomas Larkin Football Club, which had gone out of existence. Kilkenny wore black and amber in the 1905 final when they beat Cork in a replay. They were also the first team to wear non white shorts when they were pictured in 1923 in black shorts, but changed when they believed that the white shorts were luckier. Like to add something?
